FQ SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Film Quarterly (FQ) publishes criticism on international and Hollywood cinema as well as independent film, including documentary and animation. The journal also revisits film classics; examines television, digital, and online media; covers film festivals; reviews recent books; and on occasion addresses installations, video games, and emergent technologies.

FQ’s mission is to bring timely critical approaches to criticism and analyses of visual culture. Every submission should compellingly answer the questions “Why this?” and “Why now?” in terms of its choice of subject, analytical approach, and significance.

The journal welcomes established scholars and fresh voices that bring new perspectives to bear on discourses of visual representation, including intersectional approaches to cinema as seen through the lenses of inclusivity, race, lived experience, gender, sexuality, and transnationalism.

Please be sure to read recent issues of Film Quarterly, as well as the full guidelines below, before submitting your writing so that you understand editorial interests and house style.
